Logo design- Final choice

We decided to choose this logo out of our three options, simply because we thought it looked the most professional, compared to the others that seemed tacky. Whilst planning what our logo should be we wanted to include the two C's which stands for the name of the band "Crystal Code". We also considered the fact that it could contain an image to represent the names connotations, resulting in the idea of a crystal diamond centering the initials. We got the idea of having the letters symetrical to each other from Abba's logo where their letters are also symmetrical.

Make up ideas

For the narrative part of our music video, we decided to keep the makeup at bare minimum and as simple as possible. This is because we want to portray the character as being depressed and heart-broken from her loss, and therefore she doesn’t take much care and attention about her image. We believe that by doing this, it will make the narrative more realistic, meaning the audience will be able to identify with the character more. The make up we used was simply, some base foundation and mascara.

For the performance section of our music video, we thought it would be a good chance to dress the artist up with glitter eye shadow, lip gloss, eye liner and mascara to give the ‘star’ image look. This is because we wanted to distinguish the difference between the performance and the narrative of the story, as well as providing the audience to an insight of the artist’s persona and enabling to audience to recognise the artist.

For the establishing shot (the bathroom scene) we decided that by smudging the make up used for the narrative sections, it would emphasise the depressed state that the character is in, meaning the audience are more likely to be sympathetic towards her. This is to show that she doesn’t care so much about her image, and that her loss is putting her in a self loathing state.

Plot of music video

The pitch outline for our official music video is about a distressed woman who has lost her lover and is journeying to the beach to spread his ashes. The opening sequence of the music video is  a scene of the main character in the bath which is artistically stimulating and links with the lyrics "drowned you out". This could also make the audience question whether the character is suicidal. The next shots is of her walking to the car on her way to the beach, this is a build up of the story and we feel this could make the audience feel connected with the character and add suspense. When the main character gets to the beach we will have shots of her looking depressed and gazing into the distance as she reminisces. The lyrics insinuate that this couple were very close, however when he was alive she took advantage of him and didn't realise what she had till she lost it. We then will have a shot of her throwing the ashes in the sea and walking off into the distance. Our final shot will either be the bath scene again as it connects with the lyrics, or a shot of her walking off into the distance in slow motion which symbolises her slowly moving on with her life.

Costume ideas and planning 2

Due to the changes in our storyline we both decided that there should only be two different outfits in our music video. With our previous idea we wanted to establish the passing of time. However, with our final idea along side the performance shots, we wanted the events in our music video to occur in one day. We feel this would be more realistic, time efficient and connect the audience with the current happenings in the music video. Below are the costumes we have decided to keep for our video.

Props list

- Car: scenes of the main character driving off in the car on her way to the beach.
- Photograph: close ups of the main character looking at a picture of her and her dead lover.
- Phone: various shots of the main character on the phone, whilst venturing to the beach.
- Map: main character in the car, lost so she gets out a map.
- Guitar: performance shots of the main character playing the guitar in a separate location from the beach and journey to the beach.
- Urn: narrative shots of the main character holding an urn containing her dead lovers ashes.
